What is a player?

A player is a device provided by AMS Digital Signage to play your content on your screens. Each player can play out to as many screens as you like.

What happens if the internet connection drops?

AMS Signage Players work regardless. In order to update campaigns the internet connection would have to be restored. Other features like real-time viewing of campaigns, campaigns on demand and reporting among others will not work until the internet is back up online.

What are the different player statuses?

Your AMS Player will always have one of the following status’s:

Connected and synchronised:

Your player is connected to the internet and has the latest updates you have made on the AMS Portal. All campaigns you have published to the server were uploaded to the player.

Connected and syncing:

In this situation, your player is uploading the changes you have just made to the player or campaigns. This will happen when you edit a campaign, publish it to the player or remove it from the player, or any other alteration on the server that affects the player. Depending on the campaign size and media used, it can take a few seconds to minutes to synchronise.

Disconnected and synchronised:

If your player is showing this status, it means the device is not connected to the internet and no change has been made on the AMS Signage server. The player is still up to date with the website.

Disconnected and unsynchronized:

In this case you have changed something on the website that could not be uploaded to the player, as it is offline. Although the player is offline, the server detects this difference between the player and website and shows it through the players status. Next time you connect the player to the internet, it will start synchronising with the server. If your player is always out of internet coverage, you can use a USB stick and update it offline.


For players’ status overview, go to Dashboard on the Player page (first tab on the left). Check the players’ connectivity and syncing on charts.


What is a campaign?

A campaign is your digital advertisement. A collection of medias that you organise in a manner that best presents your product or service.

What is a timeline?

The timeline is the place where you can set up what media will appear in each screen division of your campaign (video, images, apps and web pages) and for how long they will be displayed. This is where your campaign duration and appearance is configured.

Can I create a campaign and publish it later?

When you finish creating a campaign, there are two possibilities: either publishing it immediately or just saving it.

After finishing the editing of a campaign, click on the button Save and Publish on the bottom of the page. It will lead you to a page where you see which players the campaign is added. As you have just created it, there will be no players on the list. The campaign is already saved on your account, and you can leave the page if you want to publish it another time.

If you want to set the campaign to a player immediately, click on the Publish to Players button. Fill in the settings, such as which players you wish to add to the campaign, when and where to play it, etc.

For publishing previously saved campaigns, you may go to the Campaign tab and click on the Publish button under the desired campaign. Then you apply the same steps as if you had just created a campaign: click on Publish to Player, fill in the settings and hit the Publish button.

How do I unpublish a campaign without removing it?

After you’ve logged in on your AMS Signage account, click on the Campaigns tab. Click on the Publish button under the desired campaign on the grid. The page will display a list with all the players in which the campaign is available. Select the check boxes beside the players and hit the red Unpublish button that will appear at the top of the list.

How do I delete a campaign?

After you’ve logged in on your AMSA Signage account, click on the Campaigns tab. On the displayed page, click on ‘More’ below the campaign, and hit Delete Campaign from the dropdown menu. A popup window will appear asking for you to confirm the action.

How do I check the campaign’s division resolution?

When you create a campaign, you can either use a setup layout or create your own. For checking the division resolution in both cases, you can place your mouse over the division thumbnail below the timeline header. If you create a campaign yourself, you can also see the resolution by clicking the pencil icon below the chosen layout under the Screen Layout header. The data will be displayed in a pop-up window.

Do I need to update the same campaign for all players?

The answer is (fortunately) no!

Once you modify a campaign, it will be automatically updated for all players to which it is currently published. This applies for any change, such as file replacement or campaign duration adjustment.

How many screen divisions can I create?

Besides the preset screen layouts, you can create your own screen design.

There is, however, a limitation to the number of divisions you can place on the screen. Add up to ten areas on the screen. Keep in mind the screen resolution and what kind of content you will place in each area when designing your screen layout.

Can I set the screens on portrait mode?

Absolutely! And you don’t need to worry about complicated settings. All you need to do is access your AMS Signage account, create a campaign and select a portrait layout.

You can also create custom portrait layouts.


Can I add a remote webpage to my timeline?

Yes, you can. Click on the Apps tab in the bottom of the campaign editing page. Click on the Add App button and select URL on the left menu from the popup window. Choose the Website Link app, add the link from the page you want to display and hit the Save button. Drag the app with the web page to your timeline.

How does the Media Cycling App works?

The Media Cycling App will reproduce one selected media at a time for as long as the app is set on the timeline. One media will be presented in each campaign looping. After the media has been selected and are presented, the app will reset and start again from the first media.

Can I link social media accounts to display on a campaign?

AMS Signage gives you 4 social networks to display a campaign – Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram. For their content to be shown in a campaign you need to add the specific app for each network. Go to the tab ‘Apps’, ‘Add App’, select the Social Network’s category, choose one and insert the necessary information.

Note that for Twitter and Instagram you need to first integrate an account to your AMS Signage account (click on your name in the upper-right corner and select Settings, then on the left side menu click on Integration Accounts and + Add Integration Account and it will open an option for Instagram.


What is FTP?

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and is a simple network protocol that allows users to transfer files from their computers to a server.

How many videos can I play simultaneously?

The limits for content reproduction are entirely dependent on your device. Some players can handle multiple videos simultaneously. Others can only play one video at a time. Make sure you test all your campaigns on the target device before deploying.

How can I upload files?

Through AMS Signage Portal 

After you’ve logged in, you can upload your photos and videos either on the File tab, or when you create a campaign. Learn more on Upload Media Files.

Through FTP

You can use a FTP client like Filezilla to connect to your AMS Signage server. In order to use this program, you need to download Filezilla. Learn how to install and use the software on “Using FTP able the service on the website beforehand and then download Fileclient”.


AMS Signage supports video (MKVAVIMP4MPGMPEG), image (JPGJPEG,PNG,GIF), web (HTMLCSSJS) and flash animations (SWF). You can also upload several medias in supported file types by compressing them in a ZIP file.

What are the supported file types?

AMS Signage supports video (MKV, AVI, MP4, MPG, MPEG), image (JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF), urls, web (HTML, CSS, JS) and flash animations (SWF). You can also upload PDF files as well as .zip files containing multiple media.

*For displaying Flash content you will need Adobe Flash Player installed (check tutorial). Note that the software is only supported on Windows devices.

Why do the files uploaded through FTP not appear on the Files tab?

Are you sure the uploaded files are supported by AMS Signage?

Files transferred through the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) are not filtered in the same way as when you drag them onto the AMS Signage website. If you have uploaded – through FTP – a file type that is not supported, AMS Signage won’t list it on your Files tab, but it will affect your space usage. We recommend that you delete unsupported files on your FTP programme.

What is the file storage capacity?

The storage capacity is 1GB per AMS Player. If you have multiple players the 1GB applies per player.
